Different Types of Animal Product Substitutes

It is now widely accepted that a plant-based diet offers numerous benefits compared to a diet focused on animal products.  Are you looking for an equally delicious replacement for animal protein in your meal? At Nature’s Soy, we provide you with great plant-based options to substitute into your daily meal.  It is a widely known fact that soy provides an excellent source of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals — without the cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat. Today we are sharing three animal product substitutes with you in our April Blog.

1.Seitan

Seitan is made of gluten, the protein found in wheat after all the dough particles have been removed. It is a popular meat substitute for vegetarians and vegan. The texture of seitan resembles meat quite well as it offers a chewy texture that works well in sandwiches, stir-fries, salads and more. Nature’s Soy Seitan only contains 4g of carbohydrate, but contains 13g of protein per serving. In today’s blog we are sharing a recipe using “Beef” Seitan: Beef Seitan with Green Pepper.

INGREDIENTS

1 package of Nature’s Soy Beef Seitan

1 Green Pepper, chopped into slices

4 cloves of garlic, minced

Ginger as needed, minced

1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil or as needed

Seasoning

1/2 Teaspoon sugar

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/2 Teaspoon Corn Starch

1 Teaspoon Vegan Oyster Sause

1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce

1/2 Teaspoon Dark Soy Sauce

STEPS

1.Mix the seasonings listed above with the Beef Seitan and season it for 15 minutes.

2.Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add minced garlic and ginger, stir for 30 seconds. When it turns brown, add seasoned seitan into the skillet. Stir fry until the seitan becomes softer.

3.Add the sliced green pepper, stir for another 2 minutes.

4.Place in a bowl and enjoy your delicious “Beef” with Green Pepper. Pair with rice for a complete meal!

2.Pressed Tofu

Nature’s Soy Five Spice Flavored Tofu is made from Extra Firm Tofu and follows a traditional production process. It is pre-seasoned and will make your meal preparation process much easier. There are two large pieces of tofu inside one package. Often, people will slice it and stir- fry it with vegetables. At Nature’s Soy, we have 6 flavors of soymilk for you to choose: Unsweetened, Sweetened, Reduced Sugar High Fiber, Matcha, Black Sesame and Black Tea flavors.
